Roque Deschamps, born on November 10, 1995, is a Dominican musician whose journey in music began early in life. Initially starting with violin and later picking up the guitar at the age of 10 at Estudio Diná music school, where he quickly developed a deep passion for music. He graduated from the Department of Folk and Popular Music at the National Conservatory of Music of Santo Domingo in 2018, where he also studied classical guitar under the guidance of Professor Rubén González. During his time at the Conservatory, Roque was selected by Berklee College of Music to participate in three of their programs in Santo Domingo, eventually earning a scholarship to attend the Guitar Sessions summer program in Boston, Massachusetts (2016).
Roque continued his academic pursuit of music at Pedro Henríquez Ureña University, earning a degree in Composition, Arrangement, and Production in 2021. He then expanded his musical education by studying at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg, Germany, as part of an exchange program through UNPHU and the DAAD (2018–2019).
In addition to his performance career, Roque has developed a keen interest in Early Music, particularly the Baroque and Renaissance periods. He pursued this passion at the Fundación de la Villa de Santo Domingo (2022–2023), where he studied the lute, theorbo, and Baroque guitar under esteemed mentors Cameron Welke and Richard Stone (Peabody Institute faculty).
Throughout his career, Roque has had the privilege of performing with celebrated artists, including Jose Antonio Molina, Johnny Ventura, Maridalia Hernández, Niní Cáfaro, Allain Mallet, and Josean Jacobo, among others.
Currently, Roque is pursuing a Master’s degree in Guitar Performance at Utah State University, where he serves as a Teaching Assistant. Under the mentorship of Corey Christiansen, Roque continues to hone his craft and contribute to the vibrant musical community at USU.
